This is the first post to the weblog I'll use to track my travels across India. I'll try to fill this space with a lot of cool multimedia and perspective, so check back often and keep the feedback coming.
Okay, now for some travel advice.
Yesterday, morning flights to and from Delhi were cancelled due to poor visibility (air pollution?). Also flights on Deccan Airlines & those in and out of Calcutta were cancelled due to strikes.
A travel agent told me the strikes should be over in a couple days, but perhaps double check bookings if you've scheduled Deccan or plan to fly through Calcutta.
Next, 2 websites below that have complete airline and rail timetables. HOWEVER, be warned that you can't actually order off these sites unless you have an Indian credit card.
Yatra (http://www.yatra.com) is an airfare search engine. (Yatra means journey in Hindi, hence the title of this blog ;)
India Rail (http://www.indianrail.gov.in/) has timetables and fares.
Use these sites for a reference for times and fares when contacting in-country travel agents, who can purchase tickets for you. Remember to click all the way through up to the c.c. processing page, as fees can be quite hefty.
If you need an in-country travel agent, Majid in Delhi is very professional and readily available by cell phone +91 9911769868. Email indiatravelmakers@hotmail.com, Attn: Majid. Website www.indiatravelmakers.com.
OK, that's it for now.
